About Attitudes and Such

Five words to describe Jesus
Last week I wrote about following in Jesus' footsteps. Let me add something to that. In Philippians 2:5 we can read something very interesting about the same subject,
The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had.
That made me re-think the life Jesus lived and I would like to ask you to do the same. Grab a piece of paper and start thinking. Could you describe Jesus' attitude in, let's say, five words?
After you have come up with five words, check and see if these words are applicable to your own life. This is a great way to check our own attitudes, to find out where we are in our walk as Believers and in what areas we still need to grow. We should have things in common with the great Master if we are serious about our faith!

Off topic of your post here but I have read some of your other posts and I have some questions. I have been studying my Bible. The Old Testament right now and for the first time, though I had been a Christian for years. I have read the New Testament but found that I lacked something important by skipping the Old Testament.

I have this issue on my heart and it has been laid there for quite some time now. A little over 16 years to be precise. There has been a battle going on inside of me for that long. I could say longer because I questioned this belief from an early age in my walk with God. It has just been the last 16 years that it has been so prevalent.

I am searching for someone to give me a scripture that will give a basis for Sunday Sabbaths. In all my studies of the scriptures I have not found one. When I question those Christians that worship on Sunday's as to why they do so their response is not that it is the day that the Lord our God commanded us to keep, it is that it is the day that Christ arose on and that is why they worship it on Sunday. I find no grounds for this in the Bible. I only find references to the seventh day as being Holy unto the Lord. I don't find anywhere where the Word tells me that I can set my own day aside, that it is my choice and not my Creator's choice. It is a commandment and as far as I can tell one that most Christians do not follow. I called my brother the other night, he goes to the Church of Christ, I asked him why they worshiped on Sundays. He told me what most everyone else said, that it was the day Christ arose. My sister who goes to the Southern Baptist church said it is because it is the day Christ arose and it was the Lord's Day. I agree that Sunday is the Lord's Day because it is told to us in the Bible, however, I don't find where it says that the Sabbath was changed to the first day, the day Christ arose, or the Lord's Day. I need someone to help me with this and since you have studied the Ten Commandments I thought that you could help me. My husband's family are Seventh Day Adventists. I have gone to that church off and on but I just don't believe what they believe on a lot of things that are important to me. They adhere very strongly on the writings of the prophetess Ellen G. White. I just don't feel right about it and I believe that if it was right that God would move my heart to accept those teachings. I can't find another Church that worships the Sabbath as I see it and I am so heartsick over this. I need the fellowship of other Christians and my soul is missing out on that feeding.

  2. First of all I am glad to hear that you have developed an interest in the Old Testament. We can never fully nunderstand the New testament if we have no knowledge about the Old Testament. They are very different, but we cannot separate them!
The Sabbath-issue has been a hot topic for ages. I purposely choose in my book not to enter the discussion about which day we should celebrate. That is an endless discussion and would be a distraction from the main message in the book.
Colossians 2:16-17 says that no one should make rules about holy days or the sabbath., so let's not do that.
Furthermore, the new testament believers came together EVERY day for worship in the temple (Acts 2:46). Why worry about saturday or sunday, when we are called to meet all of our days together with other believers?
Ofcourse, the seventh day is the sabbath, and that is saturday.
I see this in the same light as tithing. many people say this is an old testament rule and no longer applicable. True, the new testament tells us to give ALL we've got! Not 10% but ALL, not one day but ALL. In light of that revelation, we still have a long way to go.
I do understand your frustration over the fact that to many people tradition is more important than truth.
Here in ventura we have non denominational Christian churches that have worship services on Saturday. You could also visit a messianic congregation and see how they do it there.
We cannot change what other people are doing, but we can be serious and make sure we have a useful and fulfilling sabbath day in our own life! That pleases God!
In my book I do challenge churches, I do challenge America to re-install that day of rest after every 6 days of work!
Thanks for your interesting question. Be blessed and full of joy!
