First Love (2022)

Embracing the challenge to pursue faithful relationships

"I recently finished this engrossing book. It's part of the author's series on the Ten Commandments--and while I've loved all of them, this may be my favorite so far. As with the others, Marja Verschoor-Meijers digs beneath the surface of any "don'ts" of the Ten Commandments to inspire what we can do from a positive standpoint to keep them.

For example, as First Love explores the Commandment not to commit adultery, she drills down on what we can do to foster the kind of love (of God and our spouses) that helps us resist that temptation. This book is great for anyone, married or not, who wants to be a proactive part of growing in more loving relationships."

"Marja Verschoor-Meijers knows her stuff. I have been a minister for over 45 years and have read thousands of books. In my humble opinion, First Love does a better job at explaining Law #7 than any other author I have ever read. She uses the Scriptures and not only exegetes this commandment, but she also gives practical application. Too many people read the Ten Commandments as dead and dry material. Marja brings the Commandment to life and shows that it is living and power-giving.

Not committing adultery has more to do with living lovingly than you think. Marriage is a picture of Christ and His Bride, the Church. Satan attacks marriage with all his might, trying to blur the image God has given. When marriage is done rightly, it becomes an evangelistic tool that will draw others to Christ. Read this powerful book, and your relationships with God, your spouse, and others will be incredibly blessed."

"I am a Christian and, as such, I often wonder how to be worthy of God's benevolence and love. Marja Verschoor-Meijers's book clarified my ideas once and for all. Now, I understand where to start, how to behave every day, what to leave behind, and what to improve. True Worshipers has broadened my vision, often making me meditate on concepts I overlooked. I also understand some passages from the Bible better. I always welcome texts that deepen my knowledge of the Holy Scriptures because it has been my priority to study them in recent years.

True Worshipers has allowed me to achieve one of my goals. The greatest quality of this book is helping readers apply the holy precepts with awareness. My only regret is that I had not found True Worshipers before. From now on, I will keep it close, together with the other books of the series Verschoor-Meijers has already written and will write."

"I've set a high bar for awarding five stars to this book. Those five stars are meant to indicate that the book is life-changing. Taken to heart, the wisdom in these pages has the potential to change the life of not only the reader. It can also change the lives of those who come to benefit from that reader's reverence of God's name and the divine presence this invites. Highly recommended."
